Research and personal statement

Despite having a long-standing interest in research, I was hesitant to commit to the long road of a physician-scientist training, uncertain whether I was that interested. However, after having gone through the first year of medical training and having seen the colossal importance of research to advancing the medical field in which we still have so many knowledge gaps and gaining experience in a basic science lab, my calling was confirmed. I was able to join the MD/PhD program during my second year of medical school. I am currently interested in studying the etiological and pathophysiological underpinnings of preeclampsia, a devastating disorder of pregnancy that contributes significantly to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. My long term goal is to pursue training in pediatric hematology/oncology and become a physician-scientist in this area.
